Origin notes

Kiamabara is one of the wet mills operated by Mugaga Farmers' Cooperative Society in Nyeri County, Kenya. Established in 1995, the mill serves a network of smallholder farmers growing coffee at high elevation in the fertile volcanic soils near Mt. Kenya National Park. The farms supplying Kiamabara are typically small, often around a quarter of a hectare, and are commonly intercropped with bananas, maize, macadamia and beans. This mixed farming approach supports household livelihoods while helping maintain soil health and biodiversity. Coffee cherries are hand-picked and delivered to the mill, where they are carefully sorted on arrival to remove underripe or damaged fruit. The cherries are then pulped, fermented, washed and graded by density in water channels before drying slowly on raised tables. Throughout drying, the parchment is turned regularly and carefully monitored until it reaches the ideal moisture level. This washed Kenyan coffee is bright, clean and beautifully structured, with notes of lemon, orange, peach iced tea and brown sugar. It captures the elegance and clarity that make Nyeri coffees so highly regarded. Asteri note: A refined washed Kenyan coffee from smallholder farmers near Mt. Kenya, selected for citrus brightness, tea-like clarity and brown sugar sweetness.

Questions before you brew

Whole beans stay fresher for longer because grinding exposes more surface area to oxygen. If you own a burr grinder, always pick beans and grind just before you brew. Choose ground only if you don't have a grinder at home. When you pick ground, tell us the brew method (espresso, filter, cafetière, AeroPress, moka) and we grind Kenya Kiamabara AB to the exact particle size for that method.
