Brew Guide

French Press Guide

French press coffee is generous, rounded and full-bodied. It gives weight and warmth to the cup, making it ideal for slower mornings, shared tables and coffees with chocolate, nut, caramel or deeper fruit notes.

At Asteri, we see the French press as a ritual of patience: simple to prepare, rich in texture and beautifully suited to coffees that deserve time.

Temperature

92–96°C

Total brew time, 4 minutes before plunge, or longer for a cleaner settling method.

How to Brew

Seven gentle steps

01

Warm the press

Rinse the French press with hot water, then discard. This helps keep the brew temperature stable.

02

Add coffee

Add 30g of coarse-ground coffee to the empty press.

03

Add water

Pour in 500g of hot water, ensuring all the grounds are saturated.

04

Steep

Let the coffee steep for around 4 minutes.

05

Stir and settle

Gently stir the crust, then allow the coffee to settle for a moment before plunging. For a cleaner cup, wait a few extra minutes and plunge slowly.

06

Plunge gently

Press down with steady, gentle pressure. Do not force it.

07

Serve immediately

Pour all the coffee out once brewed. Leaving it in the press will continue extraction and can make the cup taste heavy or bitter.

How to Adjust Flavour

Small changes, clearer cup

Too bitter or heavy

Use a coarser grind, slightly cooler water or shorter steep.

Too weak or thin

Use more coffee, grind slightly finer or extend the steep.

Too muddy

Grind coarser, plunge more slowly, or let the coffee settle before pouring.

Balanced but too intense

Add a little hot water after brewing to soften the cup.
