Origin notes

El Refugio has belonged to the Agudelo Uribe family since August 2020. A project to share family time, connect with nature and produce specialty coffee. The 7.5-hectare farm sits in the same mountain range as the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, giving it deep volcanic soils. Once livestock and grass, the land has been replanted with Gesha, Sidra, Bourbon and other Ethiopian varieties (avg. age 3 years) alongside native shade trees that protect the coffee from harsh winds, fix nitrogen and create habitat for regional birds. The main harvest (70%) runs October–January with a fly-crop (30%) in March–June. All coffee is fully washed on an Ecomill. Pulped and fermented in a tank directly beneath the pulper, with notably low water use compared to traditional methods.

Questions before you brew

Whole beans stay fresher for longer because grinding exposes more surface area to oxygen. If you own a burr grinder, always pick beans and grind just before you brew. Choose ground only if you don't have a grinder at home. When you pick ground, tell us the brew method (espresso, filter, cafetière, AeroPress, moka) and we grind Colombia El Refugio, Washed Geisha to the exact particle size for that method.
